Located in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighborhood, the silo # 3 was built in 1923. The architect was John S. Metcalfe who were responsible for the construction of most silos in the Port of Montreal (1, 2, 3, 5). It is thanks to its innovations that the Port of Montreal was the largest grain port in North America in 1914.

It is in 2004 that the old factory Belding Corticelli has been shut down. Since then, it has been abandoned and floors has been waved at the mercy of weather that infiltrate by the roof and windows. Long time ago, there has been manufactured elastic and laces here. The building has been sold in September 2012 to developers who want to transform the plant into a complex of 38 rooms. They also talk about reception rooms, an art gallery, creation spaces for artisans and a restaurant.

For several times I passed by this little factory located in an old industrial area in the Eastern Townships, but I never been inside. Each time, I wondered if it was still active or abandoned. I must say that several tiles were broken, but I was confused with the whiteness of its garage door. A door without any dirt could only mean one thing: it had recently been installed. Moreover, the lawn was well maintained like the one owned by a retiree who cut its lawn every day.

The abandoned Val Rose plant is unquestionably one of the most famous spots in Quebec City area. And honestly, I was rather reluctant to go there. Not that I thought the spot wasn't interesting, but in general, a place known as the Val Rose is, is usually known as a "hyper vandalized where it remains nothing else except concrete and graffiti."

Popularized by a french CBC tv show, the former Iraqi consulate in Montreal is abandoned since 1980. Although this building was built around 1861, the history of the Dow brewery began nearly 60 years earlier, in 1790, when a farmer named Thomas Dunn started in the beer industry in La Prairie, who was an important stopover for travelers who went to New York from Montreal. At the time, travelers had to navigate from Montreal to Sorel on the St. Lawrence River and then, navigate the Richelieu River from Sorel to St-Jean-sur-Richelieu (formerly known as Dorchester, taking them a whole day.

Located in Sherbrooke near the 410 Highway, the Relais St-Francois is a former center for young offenders and now abandoned. Completely ransacked, the building doesn't have much interest. Water damages have been made by time, but I must admit that it's nothing when you compare with the vandalism and graffiti done here. This building is today an empty shell devoid of any value.

Update (2013-08-23) : Many thanks to those who sent me some information about this place. So, it seems like this building was used to heat other buildings of the military complex who is now abandoned.

It is rather unusual that I can not find any info about a abandoned place . Even when it is a place with many graffiti. Not that these are clear indications about the name and utility of the factory, but with the quantity of graffiti, it means that this place is deserted for a long time already.

Victim of the globalization of markets, the history of Stelfil Ltd. has suddenly stopped on March 28, 2008 for the factory and its hundred employees. The company has been decorated in 2002 in the Great manufacturing company category by the Mouvement québécois de la qualité and its future looked very promising after several years of unprofitability. But, on November 3, 2005, the worldwide leader, Mittal Steel (now ArcelorMittal) announced its acquisition. Then, three years later, the factory is closed.
